Term 2 - Week 3

Gracie was awarded the 'Star of the Week' for being organised
and responsible.
She has worked very hard keeping her desk and work area tidy.
Well done Gracie, keep up the great work.

Our class received the 'We Care Award'....again!
This has to be some kind of school record!
Well done TĪ Kōuka, great to see you showing respect for our classroom.

We have been studying fractions in maths and looking at the
different ways they can be represented.
 We had another basketball session.

 Some more trick perspective photography!

One of our guided reading activities,

Term 2 - Week 2

Talei was awarded our 'Star of the Week' for the effort and attitude she shows in maths EVERY day.
Talei has made great progress breaking up tricky maths questions into easier to solve parts.  Well done Talei!
We have been continuing with 'perspective' in art, this time beginning to use cameras to create some interesting shots!

In maths we did a few rotations of different maths activities such as murtles turtles, rocket race and computer maths.  These games don't just practise our maths skills...they also teach us about co-operating in groups and fair-play.

The ALiM group move on to dealing with much bigger numbers.

We created mathematical codes and the challenged each other to break them.  Mr Pearson found himself under a lot of pressure to solve some of very tricky ones!

Term 2 - Week 1

Renee was awarded our Star of the Week award for her effort in writing.  Renee not only has VERY tidy writing but also puts in all the things that make it interesting for the reader such as descriptive language and using speech-marks.  Renee is always keen to share her work and show where it has met her goals.
"My favourite type of writing is fiction stories...when you get to use your imagination" - Renee

Our Autumn Art is nearly finished.

We also did 'interactive art' chalk drawings (a cool idea from Mrs Pearson) and placed ourselves in them.
There were skateboards going over ramps.

 Fun on monkey bars
Some of us got the crazy hair we had always wanted...
with a disco ball in the background, of course.
A few of the boys show a soccer game in progress.

The students shared their writing with each other and made fix-ups.

The ALiM group used tens frames to break up maths problems to make them easier to solve.  For example to take 7 away from 24 we took 4 away first to leave 20 (we like numbers that end in zero) and then took away the remaining 3 to end up with 17.  There is a good link on our blog that demonstrates this.
