Term 1 - Week 4

Hannah received our Star Student award for the effort she puts in every day, for the pride she takes in her work, and for always having a helping hand ready for others.  Well done Hannah!

We like to sneak a bit of Jump Jam into our routine each day.
Active bodies, active minds!

In statistics we decided on topics to interview each other about, then we collected the data using tally charts, finally we created bar graphs to display the data.  Our focus now is on interpreting a graph (what does the graph tell us?)

We have been reading the Rainbow Fish because its story is all about respecting others.
We then sketched our own fish by using ovals, triangles and circles.
Soon we will add our warm and cool colours and they will go up on the wall!

We also have our own real fish in Room 7.
The students take turns feeding them each week.
Feeding the fish and tadpoles and watering the plants are two ways the Room 7 students demonstrate responsibility in our class.

Term 1 - Week 3

Ava was awarded our star student award for behaving in ways that ALWAYS reflect our school values, and for bringing a positive attitude to school each day.  Room 7 just wouldn't be the same without your smiling face Ava!

We practised our spelling and maths skills using studyladder

We had fun at Nayland Pool
Yeehaaaa!

Term 1 - Week 2

Jesse received our 'Star Student' award this week.
Jesse is organised for each lesson and shows respect by treating others the way he would like to be treated.
Jesse is always ready with a helping hand and brings a big smile to school each day.
Well done Jesse!
Room 7 were awarded the 'We Care Award' for having the tidiest classroom in the whole school!
This is just one of the many ways we can show respect each day.
Frogs on the blog...our little friends will soon be released into a pond to enjoy the rest of the summer.
On Fridays we have buddy reading with Room 1.
We have been impressed with the effort these young students are putting into their reading.
The Room 7 students show respect by listening carefully and offering help.

Term 1 - Week 1

We have been working hard to finish our T-Shirt
designs to put up on our wall.
We drew pictures of things that make us happy.
We also added funky bright hair to black and white photos of our faces that will go with the T-Shirts.
Come in and see them in our room next week!

Welcome back!

Welcome to Room 7's blog for 2015.  Wow, what an amazing summer we are having.  I have been out fishing and kayaking quite a bit (two things I love doing...especially when my 4 year old son Zico joins in, that's him in the picture with me) and I hope you all have had happy and fun-filled holidays too.  Our room is looking good but needs to be filled with enthusiastic students!  I would like to say how much I am looking forward to meeting all the families and students that will make this year a very special one for me.

Here's a bit about me:  I have been teaching for 10 years, my wife (Sam) and I both were teachers in Wellington for a couple of years before deciding to sell everything we owned and travel to Peru.  We taught there for almost a year in a place called Talara (I challenge you to find that on a map) and then enjoyed backpacking through Ecuador.  We returned to Wellington, taught for a couple more years, and decided to move to sunny Nelson.  We both taught at Tahunanui school for 5 years...amazing school, wonderful community, awesome students, so many fantastic memories.  Sam is staying at Tahunanui school but for me it was time for something new so here I am at your fantastic school!

I'm looking forward to seeing you all on the first day of school. Your desks are named, the tadpoles are waiting (the frogs will soon follow), and I know we are going to have a great year together.

Parents and Caregivers: There will be no homework sent home for the first week as it's a short one. After that it will be sent home on Monday each week (due in on Friday). A newsletter will soon be on its way to you explaining what's happening this term.  Swimming begins on Tuesday the 10th of February.  There will be a meet the teacher evening in week two.

See you soon!  Dave Pearson
