Term 2 - Week 6

More stick projects come in to our class.
Wow....wow....wow!  You should all be very proud of what you have created.
We will be showing these at our assembly (Friday 5th).

More amazing stick projects come in....if you have a chance to pop in to see them please do because these photos don't do them justice.

The Birchwood Cross-Country is held in beautiful weather.
Well done to every single student that got out there and ran, you should pat yourselves on the back for a great effort.
A special well done to all the 8 year olds that went to Nayland College to compete in the senior cross-county, it sounds like it was a real challenge!

The class try to break Mia's secret maths code...
it took a few attempts!

It's great to hear the stories of students and family members working together.

We had our first hockey coaching this week.
Some of the students got quite competitive on the court!

Jade not only adds her fantastic ideas to our class discussions but also listens carefully when other are speaking.  Jade approaches lessons with an "I can do it" attitude and has shown she can think of several ways of answering tricky questions....especially in maths.  You are AWESOME Jade, keep it up!

Term 2 - Week 3

Jennifer was awarded our 'Star of the Week' this week for her perseverance with tricky tasks.
Jennifer keeps trying and doesn't give up, especially in maths where she has had to try a lots of different ways to finally work out an answer......success is so much sweeter when you have had to work hard for it.  Keep up the great work Jennifer!
We re-used old newspapers and left over tinfoil to make art showing a sleepy town under a full moon.

We used the outlines of our hands to make butterflies to show our support for
New Zealand Sign Language week.

The Dolphin's reading group followed up their book on Komodo Dragons by doing some research online and in the library to see what else they could find out about these creatures.
We have started our measurement unit.  The students had a mission to find different objects that were  specific lengths such as 5 cm,
15 cm, 30cm and 60cm.....they did very well, apparently one of the goldfish is 8cm long...how did they measure that!?

The ALiM group used tens frames to think how to solve problems like 26 - 8 without counting back in ones. We worked out that if you take away the 6 first to get 20 (we like numbers that end in zero), and then take away the remaining 2, that it becomes quite easy.  This lesson is available on our 'websites we use' section of our blog.
