Term 2 - Week 3

Jennifer was awarded our 'Star of the Week' this week for her perseverance with tricky tasks.
Jennifer keeps trying and doesn't give up, especially in maths where she has had to try a lots of different ways to finally work out an answer......success is so much sweeter when you have had to work hard for it.  Keep up the great work Jennifer!
We re-used old newspapers and left over tinfoil to make art showing a sleepy town under a full moon.

We used the outlines of our hands to make butterflies to show our support for
New Zealand Sign Language week.

The Dolphin's reading group followed up their book on Komodo Dragons by doing some research online and in the library to see what else they could find out about these creatures.
We have started our measurement unit.  The students had a mission to find different objects that were  specific lengths such as 5 cm,
15 cm, 30cm and 60cm.....they did very well, apparently one of the goldfish is 8cm long...how did they measure that!?

The ALiM group used tens frames to think how to solve problems like 26 - 8 without counting back in ones. We worked out that if you take away the 6 first to get 20 (we like numbers that end in zero), and then take away the remaining 2, that it becomes quite easy.  This lesson is available on our 'websites we use' section of our blog.
